Disaster at Cinque Terre

10 Nov

On October 25, 2011 there was a terrible flood and mudslide that destroyed much of one of my favorite places in Italy, Cinque Terre. The disaster killed nine people and damaged a large portion of two of the popular villages: Vernazza and Monterosso. The good news is that the community has come together to rebuild the villages. The disaster  website  recently announced that the mud and debris is now being cleared from the area. Many tourists come to Cinque Terre each year to hike from village to village overlooking the coast. There are restaurants along the way to try the famous pesto pasta, delicious wine and enjoy the breathtaking view of the Mediterranean Sea.
